National Champion Shantu Shrestha and Navita Shrestha won the title of Huawei Nova to I Impact Thamel Open Tablet Tennis Championship. The Police duo won the single in men and women category.
In the men singles final at Lainchhaur National Table Tennis Training Center, Santu defeated two-time champion Deep Saun by 4-1. Losing the first set by 7-11, Shantu made the comeback and won 4 straight set by 13-11, 11-3, 11-9 and 11-9 to take title.
He won in his debut competition in Biratnagar last year defeating the then champion, Shiva Sundar Gothe, when he was only 16. Shantu created a history of winning singles title in the youngest age Nepali Table Tennis history.
He remained unbeaten through out the tournament and defeated Purusotam Bajracharya in the semi finals by 4-1.
In women single category, Navita won the match by 4-1 margin. She took the title defeating Alina Maharjan by 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9 and 11-8. She was defeated just once throughout the tournament and came over Swekshya Nemang in the semi finals.
The winners, runner-up and semifinalists received 25k, 15k and 10k respectively.
In terms of U16, Samyog and Dikshya won the titles in boys and girls category. Samyog defeated Alex Maharjan by 13-15, 13-11, 11-6, 11-9, 6-11 and 11-8 while Dikshya defeated Smriti Panta by 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-7. The winners received 15k while the runner up received 10k.
The double events are still to be conducted.
