Nepal produced disappointing results in both boys’ and girls’ categories in the ongoing South Asia Regional Qualifiers of the ITF U-12 Team Championship on Tuesday. On the second day of the qualifiers, Nepal faced 1-2 defeat to Bangladesh in boys’ category while the host was beaten by top seeded India 0-3 in girls’ category.
In the matches played at Satdobato Tennis Court, Nepali players Aarav Samrat Hada and Aryan Giri lost to Bangladeshi opponents Mohamed Roman Hossain and Mahadi Hasan Alve respectively in the boys’ singles events. Aarav faced 3-5, 1-4 defeat to Mohamed Roman while Aryan was beaten with the scoreline of 4-1, 0-4, 1-4. In the boys’ doubles, the pair of Mohamed Roman and Zubaed Utsho defeated Nepali pair of Samrat and Aryan 5-4, 4-2.
Similarly in the girls Group A matches, Indian participants Sweta Samanta and Anjali Rathi saw off Nepal’s Sharvani Shrestha and Isha Shree Shah 4-0, 4-1 and 4-1, 4-0 respectively. In the girls’ doubles event, the Indian pair of Anjali and Shruti Ahlawat overcame the Nepali pair of Sharvani and Shubhangee Laxmi Shah in straight sets of 4-0, 4-0.
Meanwhile in the boys’ Group A matches also India emerged victorious as it defeated Bhutan 3-0. In the boys’ singles, India’s Krishang Raghuvanshi and Ayushman Arjeria saw off Bhutanese opponents Thinley Dorji and Jigme Norbu 4-1, 4-0 and 4-0, 4-0 respectively. In the boys’ doubles event, the pair of Ayushman and Nithis Baalaji overcame the pair of Thinley and Jigme in straight sets of 4-0, 4-1.
Similarly in boys’ Group B matches, Sri Lanka registered a 2-1 win over Pakistan. In the boys’ singles, Sri Lankan player Wenuka Kithnula saw off Pakistan’s Kashan Umar Khalil 4-0, 4-0 while Vichithya Sarindu beat Hamid Israr 5-3, 3-5, 4-0. In the boys’ doubles, the pair of Wenuka and Anujya Abeywickrama defeated the Pakistani pair of Kasham Umar and Bilal Asim in straight sets of 4-1, 4-2.
