Maldives coach Shaazly said, “We had two months to prepare but our preparation has been marred by Ramjan festival. But before coming to Nepal, we had a 5-day training camp in Sri Lanka where we had good preparation.”
“I think Nepal and India are tough teams in the competition.”
“We selected the players through school level competition. The players of Capital city, Male, were given preference due to the problem of tranporstation between islands. “, he mentioned.
He clarified that small population is not the problem in making a good team.
“We have less population but we have prepared a good team and we are ready for the event”,he further added. “
We have one day rest between two group matches. Astroturf will be good for us because we have been regularly training on turf.”, concluded the coach.
Maldives will play its first group match against India on August 19 followed by their last group match against Nepal on August 21.
Maldives have been drawn with hosts Nepal and India in group B while Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri-Lanka are placed in group A.
